This past saturday was the fciac track championship. Last week at divionsals was an excellent meet for the team, fciac's was certainly as good if not better. Coach Bedard told me his team goal was top 3 and maybe a win. The team would not win but a tie for 3rd place, finish definitely deserves a lot props. In the last post I made I mentioned how much there was an improvment from 2 years ago. That was furthered showed at fciacs. Bobby Noble, Marques Word and Ryan Bone won the High Jump, Long Jump, and shot put, respsectively. Those 3 wins were twice, yes thats right twice the amount of points as was scored two years ago. With 68 points scored for the entire meet, I would say a 66.5 point improvement in a 17 team meet over 2 years is pretty damn good. Jordan Lysenko got 3rd in the mile. Tim Murphy scored 10 points of his own, with 3rd in the long jump, 4th in the high jump. I also want to comment on something else, last years 4x800 team, who were state runners up, lost 3 of their members. with 3 new guys on the team i did not expect this years 4x8 team to better or come even close last years 4x8. So to Robert Jansen, Rob O, Adam Lysenko, and Sven Englund, props on keeping up a great 4x8 team.
I don't think there is an award for fciac coach/ assistant coach of the year. If there was it should go to the two coaches of New Canaan. With the improvement that has been made over the past 2 years I think that is only fitting that Bedard and Remly get those awards. Those two coaches have turned good athletes into great ones. And while other coaches around FCIAC have done the same, I cant imagine that it could be comparable to New Canaan's. If you don't believe me, just look at the scores, they don't lie.
Some of you may object to me giving so many props to New Canaan track and field, fine then that's your opinion. If you are someone who objects then just go to a practice and watch the dedication and effort that is put in. You will then see why so many props and such have been given out.

For most people standing around and watching a high school track meet for 7 or so hours would be considered boring. Yet to me those 7 hours felt like 2. coaching and cheering on my on old team definitely made the long trip from Chattanooga worthwhile. Part of what made the meet so great was the fact that New Canaan had a legit shot at winning the indoor divisional meet for the first time in a long time. A big reason was because of two great coaches, Coach Bedard and Coach Remly. Two years ago New Canaan scored 22 points at the same meet. This year they passed that mark, by a lot, seriously a lot. On Saturday they scored 144 points, that’s right 122 more than 2 years ago. In fact the shot put alone scored 31 points since the top 6 finishers were all New Canaan. A lot of those 31 points have to be credited to Bedard who coached those guys pretty much every step of the way. Remly lead the distance guys who ran great. The 4x750 won the first event of the day which put the team in first place at the time. Jordan Lysenko came through with a big win in the mile. Jordan would then go on to place 5th in the 2 mile. Of course lots of credit has to be given to those in the technical events. Bobby Noble got 2nd in the pole vault and first in the high jump. Tim Murphy placed 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in the high jump. New Canaan made a valiant effort however with just 2 events left Darien was out of reach. We were ahead of Wilton by about 70 points. So with just 2 events left and 2nd place locked up New Canaan could have just given up and ended a long day. However there was no give up in the athletes. 4x375 ran a respectable time. Then the 4x225 won the last meet of the day, which was a nice way to close out the meet. Props to Maques Ward who after winning the long jump, ran the last leg of the 4x225 to win the event. Even though New Canaan did not win the meet, 2nd place is pretty good. Yes there is that saying no one remembers who finishes 2nd, but I certainly expect and hope that people will remember this 2nd place finish. Coach Bedard coached one great team. He took a team who 2 years ago finished last in a 5 team meet and made them runners up in a 6 team meet. A lot credit has to be given to Bedard but the athletes as well. So props to you guys.

In a post a few weeks ago max expressed his disappointment with the xc team. I must say that I definitely agree with him. Kenny slattery was telling me about how a few of the guys on the team had gone to see a movie with some of the darien xc guys. They are apparently quite good friends with them now. One of the great things about xc was the great rivalry between us and darien, and now that seems to have been lost. When I ran for the team, we did not like darien and they did not like us. Yes I showed them respect, and would congratulate them for good races but that was it, no more. Guys like slattery and miller felt the same way, they were our rivals not our friends. However now the current team has seemed to forgotten about that. It was bad that they let the heyyyyyyys fade away, but letting our biggest rivalry fade away, that’s just unacceptable. No wonder the rest of the school looks down at our sport as being a weak one, I don’t blame them. Our school takes pride in having a big rivalry with our neighboring town, apparently xc team doesn’t. I can remember last year just how upset we all were when darien won the division title at waveny. Yes we were upset that we lost the division title but we were more mad that we lost it to darien. i am seriously starting to think that if the current xc guys were in that same situation, that they would be nowhere near as upset as we were. Yes they deserve props for what they have done on the course. But they get no props for what they have done off the course.

im gonna start off by saying lots of props to Jordan Lysenko, who finished 35th at state opens in the cross country meet. that is incredible when you stop and think and realize just what he accomplished.

on my old site i had props of the day so i'll figure i will continue that on this site. props of the day goes to Andrew Brooks for reminding all of us on his site about a very funny joke i said. "There was a farmer...and then there wasn't." (Chas, during XC season 2004). Props Andrew.

since i go to a school in the south, i thought i would provide y'all with some southern humor.

what is the difference between a story in the north and a story in the south.... a story in the north begins with "once upon a time", and a story in the south begins with "y'all aint gonna belive this shit"

so here's some random picture i found for y'all
